Keeping Your Child’s Heart Healthy
Posted on Feb 08, 2016
The month of February is American Heart Month sponsored by the American Heart Association. The mission of the American Heart Association (AHA) is to build healthier lives. The AHA was founded in 1924 by six cardiologists dedicated to improving the research and knowledge concerning cardiovascular disease and stroke. Today, the AHA includes more than 22.5 million supporters fighting to improve the health and wellbeing of people across the United States. The purpose of American Heart Month is to raise awareness about the leading cause of death for men and women in the United States, heart disease. Each year, one in 4 adults die because of heart disease. Often, this disease is preventable by making healthier choices like eating better and exercising regularly.
How does this impact our little monkeys? When children develop healthy habits at a young age they are empowered to continue making healthy choices in their adult lives! The AHA is committed to providing education and resources to families and children which is why they have created the Alliance for a Healthier Generation. The Alliance works with schools to raise awareness in children and adults about the importance of healthy living to prevent childhood obesity. But it is up to parents to encourage their children to make healthier choices at home like regularly exercising. Regular physical activity is critical for heart health which is why you should bring them to Monkey Joe’s indoor playground! When kids bounce, jump and climb at Monkey Joe’s they are getting in exercise that will help their hearts grow and stay healthy! You will also be teaching them that healthy habits like exercising can be fun and exciting.
