Healthy Fun with Mr. Sun in Katy, Texas

Posted on Jun 29, 2016

From the pool to the park, keep the kids safe from the summer heat.

Since June is National Safety Month, we at Monkey Joe’s would like to share a few tips and tricks to keeping your little one safe from Mr. Sun this summer! Whether you are swimming at the pool, exploring a new city on a family vacation, or playing on the playground, make sure your kids are protected from the heat!

  1. Stay hydrated- Before the kids go out to play, make sure that they drink plenty of water and eat a balanced meal. It is recommended that children under 8 years old drink at least 5 glasses (1 litre) of water per day and kids 9 to 12 years old drink at least 7 glasses per day. If your little ones are not fans of plain water, try adding a fusion of flavor to their drinks with slices of fresh fruit or flavored ice cubes to their drinks.
  2. Watch your children- Accidents can happen in the blink of an eye. Remember to always watch your children when they play, especially if they are playing in a pool, lake, or other body of water. Inflatable toys are helpful, but cannot be depended on to prevent accidents.
  3. Use sunscreen- It is recommended that children wear sunscreen with at least SPF (sun protection factor) 15, preferably higher. Sunscreen should be applied about 30 minutes prior to going outside and should be reapplied every few hours, especially if children are playing in water.
  4. Avoid the afternoon- The hottest part of the day is between 12pm and 3pm. Avoid heat related illnesses by bringing playtime inside to Monkey Joe’s in Katy! Our indoor playground is air-conditioned, so no need to worry about sunburns or dehydration in the jungle!

Our Katy location is open 7 days a week, rain or shine. So when the weather is just too hot to play outside, head over to our bouncy playground for indoor fun! Invite a friend and beat the heat at Monkey Joe’s!
