Costume Tips for Parents

Posted on Oct 06, 2017

October is here, and you know what that means: it’s almost Halloween! One of the best parts about this season is getting to dress up in costume. Check out some costume tips for parents from Monkey Joe’s Katy!

First, and most importantly, start early! Costume aisles are already starting to look sparse in some stores, and there are only a few weekends between now and Halloween. The sooner you have everything taken care of, the less stress you’ll feel at the end of the month. With so many exciting events in the Houston area, you’ll want to have costumes early! And don’t forget to think outside the big box store: thrift shops are a great source of costumes!

While you’re picking and prepping costumes, remember to keep safety in mind! If you plan to take kids out trick-or-treating after dark, make sure that their costumes can easily be seen from the road. Consider adding reflective tape to very dark costumes. Always send kids out with flashlights. If kids are wearing masks, make sure the eye holes are big enough that they can see well. If you’re going to paint on kids’ skin, make sure it’s makeup quality--never use craft paint on faces!

We hope you’ll bring your little monkeys to Monkey Joe’s Katy in costume, because we love to see them! But if you do, make sure there are no pins, loose fabric, or sharp edges that might hurt them or other kids. And don’t forget that all kids must wear socks to play in the Jungle. We can’t wait to see you!
