Beat the Heat at Monkey Joe’s!

Posted on Jul 06, 2017

Summer is upon us, and there’s no denying how hot it is outside. Are you taking care of yourself and your kiddos as temperatures climb? Here are some ways to stay safe and cool this summer.

  • Hyrdate! The hotter it is, the more you sweat as your body tries to cool itself down. The more you sweat, the more water you need to take in to replace all that fluid. Did you know dehydration is especially common amongst kids? Consider starting the day with a big glass of water to get a jump on hydration. A reusable water bottle is another great way to keep drinking water throughout the summer and beyond. If kids dislike the taste of plain water, consider adding a little bit of citrus like lemon or lime, or even a mint leaf for a fresh taste!
  • Be Sun Safe! If possible, avoid the sun when its rays are the brightest and most direct, generally between 10:00 pm and 4:00 pm. Seek the shade or stay indoors during these times, which also tend to be the hottest parts of the day. This is a great time to bring kids to Monkey Joe’s in Katy, TX to work off all their energy in an indoor, air-conditioned space.
  • Sunscreen! This gets its own section because it’s so important! Make sure to wear a broad-spectrum sunscreen of at least SPF 30 every time you go outside, and to reapply if you’ve been swimming, sweating, or just outside for a while. Don’t forget hard-to-reach areas like the tops of ears and the back of necks, or the tops of feet in sandals.

When you’re tired of the heat but kids still need to be active, come down to Monkey Joe’s in Katy for great fun in the air conditioning!
