Birthday Party Tips: Choosing a Birthday Cake

When you book a kids' birthday party at Monkey Joe's Winter Park, you are welcome to bring a cake.* But what cake to choose? These days there are so many options to choose from, so read on to learn some tips for choosing a great children's birthday party cake, and make the next birthday party you throw one to remember. 

Make it personal

The birthday cake isn't just a tasty snack after working up an appetite jumping around in our inflatable indoor playground. (Though it is that, too!) The birthday cake is the visual centerpiece and one of the details that people are likely to remember about the event- including your birthday boy or girl! Make it extra special by choosing a theme that will delight your child. It could be a favorite character (Darth Vader, Elsa), a vocation (construction workers on site with cranes and dump trucks, a veterinarian with a cute cat or dog), a setting (under the sea with mermaids and sea shells, outer space with planets and stars), or even a photo cake featuring your child! 

Keep kids' tastes in mind

Remember, kids can be picky, especially when it comes to texture. If you want them to actually eat the cake, it's best to choose classics like yellow cake with buttercream frosting, or for something more exciting, funfetti. Carrot cake or anything with nuts or coconut is likely to be met with "EWWW" and "What is in this?!" rather than the "YUM"s you were hoping for. 

Don't sweat it

It's easy to get wrapped up in the details, but don't forget to have some fun. Your kid will probably enjoy a grocery store cake topped with their favorite character just as much- or even more- than a fancy-flavored bakery cake that cost an arm and a leg. The important thing is that you can spend their birthday together having fun and making memories. We make it easy with all set-up and clean-up included in our party packages.
