3 Ideas for Healthy After-School Snacks

Posted on Sep 11, 2015

healthy kids snacksSince September is National Childhood Obesity Awareness Month, we want to share some tips to help your family be happy and healthy! Physcial activity is an important aspect of a healthy lifestyle, and we're proud to provide families in Winter Park, Florida with a great option for active, indoor play at our inflatable playground. But nutrition matters too, so check out some ways you can give your children's after-school-snack a healthy makeover!

Rainbow plate party

Kids love dipping, but often the vehicle for hummus, salsa, or dip is a not-so-healthy chip or cracker. Help your kids learn to love veggies and get a well-rounded snack by giving them a variety of veggies to dip in hummus, guacamole, or salsa. Include a variety of different colors (and thus different vitamins and nutrients), for instance: Orange baby carrots, green bell pepper slices, and red radish slices, or green snap peas, purple carrot slices, and red and orange cherry tomatoes!

Ants on a log

We know, we know, you've heard this one before. But celery sticks with a smear of nut butter and some raisin "ants" is a classic for a reason. Not only does it combine a vegetable, a fruit, and some protein, but it also looks fun and gets kids excited. Even if your child doesn't love ants on a log, you can make healthy foods fun by presenting them in a unique way. Turn apple slices into a snake with a fruit leather tongue and mini chocolate chip eyes, or check out the cool and creative lunches people create with bento boxes.

Fruit pizza

Everybody loves pizza, right? Let your kids decorate their own fruit "pizza" by adding banana slices, grapes, pomegranate seeds, and/or kiwifruit slices to a flat wedge of watermelon. Then watch as they gobble it up!
