Back to School Tips

Posted on Aug 26, 2016

It’s about that time of year again, Meet Your Teacher, new school supplies, and a quieter house. This may be the first time for you, or maybe you’ve gotten ready for back to school so many times you could do it with your eyes closed. Either way, It’s always helpful to brush up on a few tips to make this transition period a breeze.

School Lockers

Picking a Backpack

Above all other school supplies you’ll purchase, a backpack may be the most important. Your kids are going to wear them for ¾ of the year! The backpack should have enough pockets to have productive organization, but small enough to never exceed 10 to 20 percent of your child’s weight. It may be a good idea to go through their backpack with them every week or so to remove unnecessary items.

Touring the School

Making your little students feel comfortable for their first day of school is essential! Going to Meet Your Teacher Day may feel like a chore, but it’s great opportunity. Your child can see where their classroom is, and start to feel comfortable walking around the school.

Developing Good After-School Habits

First and foremost, try to get your students involved in after-school activities as soon as possible. Even in they’re all for fun, this will start to create good habits. After they get home from their extracurriculars, set up times that are dedicated to homework. With little ones, there may not be a lot, but it’s still a great idea to make these habits early.

As school starts and you begin to settle in, don’t forget to schedule in some play time for your children. You know we’d love to see you at Monkey Joe’s! Have a great start to your year!
