Looking Back on 2017 with Your Family

Posted on Dec 21, 2017

The new year is right around the corner, and you know what that means: it’s time to look back on 2017. This year has seen a lot of changes, and even if kids don’t understand what’s going on, they’ve probably picked up on some confusion. Here are some family-friendly ways to look back on 2017 from Monkey Joe’s Waukesha!

Did someone start school? Get excellent grades? Begin a new activity? Remind each other of all the fun things you did. For 2018, commit to writing down one happy, special, or fun memory every week. Seal these memories into a jar, and then open it and read them together on New Year’s Eve 2018!

Look back on where you were last year, and compare it to where you are now. Measure yourselves, and compare your height to last year. Do this with shoe sizes as well--kids will love to see how much they’ve grown! Look at pictures of your kids last year and talk about all the ways they’ve changed. How much higher can they bounce in the Jungle than they were able to last year? Are they ready to graduate from the Mini Monkey Zone?

If something truly sad happened to your family this year, don’t be afraid to acknowledge it. It’s a great time to remember lost grandparents, pets, or other loved ones, and while it can be sad, it can also be a source of joy. Remember to accentuate the positive, but don’t be afraid to feel a little sad. There’s nothing wrong with grieving together as a family.

All of us at Monkey Joe’s Waukesha look forward to celebrating 2018 with all of you!
