Beat The Summer Heat And Keep Kids Cool!

Posted on Jun 23, 2016

There's a ton of perks to summer time. We love backyard BBQ's, pool side days and vacation time. But there's always one thing we can't stand...the heat! Especially when it comes to our kids, we're always worried about heat exhaustion, dehydration and sunburns. But have no fear! We're here to offer the best tips for keeping the kids cool and beating the heat.

  • Stay hydrated! For children 8 and under, it's crucial to drink at least 5 cups of water a day to stay fully hydrated (though we recommend more)! It's difficult to get kids to drink water when juice or soda is available. So make their water intake more enjoyable by purchasing a fun water bottle, adding flavored or colored ice cubes, or adding fresh frozen fruit infusion!
  • Avoid the afternoon. The suns rays are the most dangerous (and hot) between 10 am and 3 pm. So try to plan your outdoor play for early in the morning or late in the evening. Your skin will thank you!
  • Wear appropriate clothing. Try to dress the kids in clothing that is breathable, lightweight and light in color. There's nothing worse than a black t-shirt on a 100 degree summer day! And don't forget to include accessories for your face, like sunglasses, a sun hat and sunscreen.
  • Mist off. Consider purchasing a few spray bottles and stick them in your car. Especially if you're in the sun longer than intended, this is the quickest way to take breather and cool off!
  • Stock the fridge! We know your kids are going to love this one; stock the fridge with some icy treats like watermelon, cucumber, ice cream and popsicles. It's a great refresher and there are a ton of great ideas out there! Here are some of our favorite kid friendly treats.

And our last tip...

Bring the kids into Monkey Joe's of Waukesha! We're fully air conditioned, so no sunburns or heat exhaustion here! And when you bring in a large group, we'll offer a discounted group rate. We're also here rain or shine, so if your outdoors plans fall through due to weather, you'll always have a back up plan.
