How You Can Protect Your Child During Flu Season

Posted on Jan 18, 2016

According to the Centers for Disease Control (CDC), anyone can contract the flu including healthy adults and children. It’s more important now than ever to protect your family and slow the spread of the flu. We hear about the flu a lot, but what exactly is it? The flu, or Influenza, is a contagious virus affecting the respiratory system. Seniors and young children are at a higher risk for contracting the flu virus and it can cause hospitalization or even death.

The good news is you can protect yourself and your family by following these simple steps recommended by the CDC:

  1. Routinely wash your hands. If you aren’t in a place that allows washing your hands use an alcohol-based hand sanitizer.

  2. Avoid touching your eyes, nose and mouth. This is how germs are contracted and spread, so try to avoid touching these areas of your face as much as possible especially during the flu season.

  3. Avoid sick family, friends and colleagues. This can sometimes be the hardest especially when you live or work with those who have the flu. Disinfect the surfaces in your home or office and be sure to keep your distance.

  4. If sick, stay home! Don’t put those around you at risk. Stay home, rest and hydrate.
