Beat the Back to School Blues

Posted on Jul 14, 2017

Can summer really be over already? It’s true--the beginning of the school year is right around the corner. Here are some tips to ease the transition from summer vacation to the start of the school year.

  • Adjust. Bedtime often get lax in the summer. A week or two before school starts, begin slowly moving the schedule back to school year norms. This helps ensure kids have time to get adjusted. Wear them out with a day or evening of active fun at Monkey Joe’s to help kickstart this process!
  • Talk. Kids may be feeling anxious about the unknowns of a new school year, sad about losing all their extra free time, or a combination of many feelings. They may not realize why they’re so bummed, or even have the words to express themselves. Helping them understand their feelings will make it easier for you to deal with them as a family.
  • Play. Schedule a playdate with old friends or new classmates to take the mystery out of a new school year. If you have the time, a short family trip to the beach, the zoo, or even just a special dinner will help kids feel close to their family.
  • Get Kids Involved. The more involved in preparations kids are, the more excited they’ll be! Let them look for coupons and sales on school supplies, track the list and monitor the budget when shopping for supplies or clothes, and get to know the subjects they’ll be studying.

With a little extra effort, the start of the school year can be as pain-free as possible. And remember, fall specials will be starting soon at Monkey Joe’s! Follow us on Facebook to stay up to date!
