3 Tasty Snacks (That Are Nutritious, Too!)

Posted on Mar 30, 2017

A Healthy Twist on Popsicles

March is National Nutrition Month, and we couldn’t be more excited. After all, bananas are Monkey Joe’s favorite food, and they’re packed with potassium, fiber, and Vitamins C and B6. Eating bananas has load of health benefits, from reducing swelling to increasing production of white blood cells. And eating other nutritious foods is just as important for kids! But how can you convince kids that other healthy foods are as yummy as bananas?

How to Make Healthy Snacks Delicious

  1. Make a parfait. Get a clear glass or dish. Layer in vanilla yogurt, granola, and your child’s favorite dried or fresh fruits. Voila! A tasty dessert with a fraction of the sugar (and some great health benefits too).
  2. Make shapes. Do your kids pick at their sandwiches? It’s time to get creative. Here’s what you do: make a sandwich on whole grain bread. Fill it with fresh turkey slices and sliced veggies, peanut butter and bananas, or another healthy filling. Using cookie cutters, cut fun shapes into the bread. Your kids will have fun eating clouds, animal shapes, and hearts. And you won’t have to fight to get them to finish their plate.
  3. Popsicles. Want a refreshing treat without all the sugar? Just blend fresh fruit with lemon juice, pour it into a mold, and wait. A dessert that’s as delicious as any of the less healthy options from the store.

Nutrition is important for kids no matter what month it is. So is exercise! An hour of active play is recommended by most pediatricians. Why not have fun with it? Bounce off the walls at Monkey Joe’s Warner Robins. They won’t even realize it’s good for them!
