Kindergarten Here We Come- Preparing for the First Day of School

Posted on Aug 12, 2016

Get ready for Kindergarten at Monkey Joe's!

For some little ones, the new school year will be the start of a great adventure into their elementary school years! Even with preschool experience, up-and-coming kindergarteners are in for a whole new world of friends, teachers, daily procedures and more. Whether you are new to the kindergarten process or have been through it before, there are a few things that you can do to make sure that your child has a smooth transition into their first year of school!

Kindergarten Here We Come!

  • Attend Open Houses and Parent Nights- Many schools hold sneak-a-peek events a few days before classes start to allow parents the opportunity to meet their child’s teacher, other classmates, and see the classroom. This is a great way for kids to ease into the idea of spending their days at school with new friends and people.
  • Play Pretend- A new setting away from their parents can be a lot to take in for a kindergartener. Some children are more shy than others and may not feel comfortable asking the teacher questions like where the restroom is or where to get a supply. Play out a few scenarios with your child at home to reassure them that they can trust and talk to their teacher. That way, when you introduce them to their teacher, they will feel more comfortable asking for help.
  • Meet and Mingle With Other Parents- When you go to drop off your child on the first day of school, talk with the other parents and consider planning a classroom outing to a nearby kid-friendly playground like Monkey Joe’s in St. Louis!

Monkey Joe’s is a favorite playtime destination for families in the St. Louis area. Our spacious and clean playground has a variety of jumps, slides and games for kids 2 to 12 to play on and explore. With party rooms, tons of parent sitting areas and a snack bar, a play date to Monkey Joe’s is the perfect place to throw a group party. We are happy to accommodate large groups and offer discounted rates, just call and ask!
