Giving Back in a Refreshing Way: Alex’s Lemonade Stand

Posted on Jun 15, 2016

Alex Scott and her lemonade stand.

If there is one thing we love more than playtime in the jungle, it’s giving back to our local community. Monkey Joe’s in St. Louis is excited to announce that we, along with other participating Monkey Joe’s locations, have partnered with Alex’s Lemonade Stand Foundation to help raise money for childhood cancer research.

More about Alex’s Lemonade Stand Foundation

“When life gives you lemons, make lemonade.” Young  Alexandra “Alex” Scott was a perfect example of this common phrase. Before her first birthday, Alex Scott was diagnosed with neuroblastoma, a form of childhood cancer.  At age 4, after multiple ups and downs, Alex came up with the idea that she would build a lemonade stand to raise money for others with childhood cancer. With the help of her family, Alex raised a staggering $2,000 for “her hospital”  at her first stand and continued to hold yearly lemonade stands in her yard to benefit other children and their battles with cancer. In 2004, Alex lost her battle, however, she left behind a legacy that still lives on today through her foundation, Alex’s Lemonade Stand.

Their Mission

Alex’s Lemonade Stand hopes to empower people, especially children, to get involved and make a difference in their communities. All of the proceeds raised at the lemonade stands goes towards funding research projects to find cures and treatments for those battling childhood cancer. Funds also go to families with children receiving treatments for their travel expenses.

We hope you are as inspired by Alex’s heart of gold as we are. We hope Alex’s story inspires our guests to give back and make a difference. Visit the ALSF website to read more about this inspirational little girl and how you can donate to this powerful cause.
