3 Party Tips (If Your Child Isn’t the Birthday Kid)

Keep the Focus on the Birthday Kid

Birthdays are always fun at Monkey Joe’s. If you’re planning a kids' birthday party in St. Louis, you won’t find a better place for kids to bounce and play. We have private party rooms, wall-to-wall inflatables, and dedicated party hosts so parents don’t need to worry about a thing. But what if your child isn’t the guest of honor? Make sure everyone has the time of their lives by following good birthday party etiquette for guests.

3 Birthday Party Etiquette Tips

  1. What’s appropriate to spend on a gift? There’s no hard and fast rule about gift-giving. If your budget is tight, a homemade gift is just as thoughtful as something store-bought. Ask the birthday child’s parents about the kid’s current interests, and hit the dollar store for supplies. If you plan to bake something, check with the parents first to make sure their child doesn’t have any food allergies.
  2. Is it okay to bring siblings along? Think about how you’d feel if every parent wanted to bring siblings to your child’s birthday party! If your child isn’t on the guest list, there won’t be enough admits, pizza, or cake for him to tag along. If childcare isn’t an option, tell the parents that you’re bringing an extra kid along, but you don’t expect them to be part of the festivities. Siblings who aren’t party guests can play with the other kids, but when it’s time for cake and presents, head over to the refreshments area for some special bonding time.
  3. Should parents stick around? Most parents don’t mind if kids’ parents stick around, as long as they try to help out. Out of courtesy, double check with the parents first. If they give the go-ahead to stay, remember that you’re there to help, not eat cake. If the party is getting too crowded and they ask you to leave, take advantage of a child-free afternoon to knock out those errands!
