Healthy Snacking Tips for Kids
Posted on Sep 11, 2015
As we mentioned in our last blog post, September is National Childhood Obesity Awareness Month. Incorporating more active play into your child's routine is an important part of a healthy lifestyle. We're proud to provide an outlet for active play here at Monkey Joe's Pointe Orlando, where our indoor playground offers kids hours of active fun running, jumping, sliding, and frolicking on our indoor inflatables. However, exercise alone isn't enough; healthy eating is also important. Read on to learn some tips to give your kids' snacking routine a healthy makeover!
- Consider your child's routine. It's important to provide your child with enough fuel to get through the day, but you also want them hungry enough to eat a nutritious dinner. Take into consideration how much and when your child ate lunch, and when you normally get dinner on the table to determine whether they need a bigger or smaller snack.
- Make nutrition fun. The best way to create a good habit is to make it fun. Get your kids to snack on healthier foods by creating colorful combinations of fruits and veggies, or building fun creations like "ants on a log." (Celery sticks + peanut butter, topped with raisins for the "ants.")
- Stick to a schedule. Kids who have access to snacks all day can have trouble telling when they're truly hungry. That's a skill that they will need as adults, so limit food to set times and try to keep it consistent.
