Childhood Obesity Awareness Month: Make Physical Activity Fun!

Posted on Sep 04, 2015

active family fun in OrlandoDid you know that September is National Childhood Obesity Awareness Month? Childhood obesity- which affects 1 in 3 kids in the U.S.- puts kids at increased risk for health issues like high blood pressure, heart disease, and type 2 diabetes. Wondering how you can help? The key is to give kids more opportunities to be active and learn healthy eating habits. It's easier than you might think, so read on for some tips.

  • Lead by example. When you get regular exercise and make healthy eating choices, your kids will be more likely to follow suit. No one likes to be told "Do as I say, not as I do"!
  • Keep it positive. The best way to create a lifestyle change is to make it fun and rewarding. Keep the focus on positive changes like adding more fruits and veggies to meals, trying new healthy foods, adding more physical activities to your family's routine, rather than focusing on negatives like "No more fried food" or "No more video games."
  • Look for active alternatives. Instead of a family trip to the movies for 2 hours of sitting and eating popcorn, come to Monkey Joe's for hours of bouncy play in our indoor inflatable playground. Our party and play center is also a great physically active option for field trips, birthday parties, and play dates.

At Monkey Joe's Pointe Orlando, we are proud to provide local families with a place for active play, rain or shine! Bring your kids today to bounce, climb, slide, jump, crawl, and just have fun on our indoor inflatables!
