Making Lemonade Out of Lemons

Posted on Jun 14, 2016

We’ve all heard the saying “When life hands you lemons, you make lemonade,” and not just from Beyonce. One 4 year old little girl, Alex Scott was a beautiful, shining example of this statement.

About Alex

Just before Alex’s first birthday, she was diagnosed with neuroblastoma, a form of childhood cancer. On her first birthday, her parents we told that if she beat the cancer, she’d likely never walk again. But this resilient little girl slightly moved her let just two weeks later, and by her second birthday was crawling and standing with the aid of leg braces.
She was as strong as her family knew her to be, constantly beating the odds. In 2000, the day after her fourth birthday, Alex told her mom “when I get out of the hospital, I want to have a lemonade stand to help other kids, like they helped me.” True to her word, she did just that. With her first lemonade stand she raised an amazing $2,000 for “her hospital.”

Monkey Joe’s and ALSF

Alex may have lost her battle with cancer, but her legacy and beautiful gesture lives on. ALSF partners with individuals and corporations to continuously raise money for childhood cancer research. When Monkey Joe’s heard about ASLF, we knew we had to be a part of it.
For the entire month of June, Monkey Joe’s Lexington will have our own lemonade stand to raise money for ALSF. With each purchase, $1 will go directly to ASLF. If Alex’s story touched you as much as it did us, please feel free to ask us how to have your own lemonade stand, or partner with your business.

We believe in having fun and helping others, just like Alex. It’s with your lemonade purchase that help us continue her legacy. So come and let the kids jump around, have a blast, and top off your trip to Monkey Joe’s Lexington with the sweetest glass of lemonade.
