Monkey Joe’s Gives Back for Harvey Relief

Posted on Sep 12, 2017

We’ve all heard a lot about Hurricane Harvey and the devastation it has caused. Thousands of people and animals in the greater Houston area and beyond are unable to return to their homes due to flooding and incredible rainfall. Many have no homes to return to at all. Here at Monkey Joe’s Kenosha, we believe in giving back, so we’re hosting a fundraiser for Hurricane Harvey relief.

All through the month of September, we will be collecting donations at our Kenosha location. At the end of the month, Monkey Joe’s will match every donation 100% and then donate it to the Red Cross. Not only does this double your donations, but it makes them more effective in the long run, since one large donation is usually easier and cheaper for non-profit organizations to process than many small ones.

Unless you’re a member of an organization that’s already equipped to feed and house volunteers, it’s probably best not to go to the affected areas. Similarly, material donations are usually not as helpful as money, because they require overworked relief organizations to spend time and energy organizing them rather than providing help. If you’d like to help in other ways, check out this roundup from NPR.

How much can we raise between our three locations this month? We are constantly amazed by how generous our Monkey Joe’s patrons are. Did you know that last year Wisconsin was one of the top ten most charitable states in the US? Working together, we can do a lot of good for people impacted by this disaster.

We hope to see all our friends join us for this Hurricane Harvey fundraiser!
