At Monkey Joe's Dulles, we're proud to provide families in northern Virginia with a great place to have fun and make memories, from birthday parties to family outings. Read on for some photography tips for parents to help you capture those happy smiles, and remember to show off your work on our Facebook page to be entered to win the prize. Whether you shoot with a digital camera or your phone, these helpful hints can up your photography game for even better snapshots.

  • Increase shutter speed. Raising your shutter speed will help you capture a still moment in time, instead of ending up with a bunch of blurry photos. When it comes to shooting action--from your kid coming down the slide at Monkey Joe's to running around on the soccer field--the higher the shutter speed, the better.
  • Turn on burst mode. "Burst mode", also known as "continuous shooting mode" is a huge help when capturing your chlid in action. Turn on this mode to quickly take a series of shots of your child jumping, climbing, sliding, etc, then choose the best ones to keep.
  • Make your subjects the centerpiece. The focal point is the place in a photo where your attention is drawn first. When shooting people, try to keep them roughly in the middle of the frame, and be aware of how other elements in the background and surroundings will affect the composition. Of course, rules were meant to be broken, so don't be afraid to get creative!

*Frequent Jumper Card cannot be combined with any other offers. No cash value. Valid only at Monkey Joe's Dulles/Sterling location. Limit 1 photo entry per family. Winner will be chosen at the sole discretion of Monkey Joe's management. Contest entries must be submitted no later than 6/30/16. Winner will be notified through Facebook.
