End of Summer Fun for NoVA Kids

Posted on Aug 05, 2016

It's hard to believe there are only a few weeks of summer vacation left in Loudoun County, but students will indeed be heading back to class on August 29th. That means it's time to double down on the summer fun while you still can, making the most of these last lazy days before the busy school routine is in full swing. Here are some ideas to help you and your kids seize the day and end the summer with a bang!

Get active

Soon, kids will be spending more time sitting at desks and engaged in structured activities, so use this time to encourage as much active free play as possible. Go for a nature walk, run around the backyard, kick a ball in the park, or head to Monkey Joe's for hours of bouncing, jumping, sliding fun in our inflatable indoor playground.

Make time for friends

One of the best parts of summertime is the ability for kids to spend lots of unstructured time hanging out and playing with neighbors, siblings, and friends, cultivating those important relationships. Invite other neighborhood families or playgroup friends to an end-of-summer playdate for one last blast of summer fun. Monkey Joe's is a great option for group play dates because we have plenty of space for kids to run wild on our inflatables, a toddler zone for the little ones, and plenty of comfortable seating where parents can hang out, chat, and watch the kids play.

Preserve summer memories

Don't let all that summer fun fade away. Help your kids preserve their memories of the summer by creating a scrapbook page, journal, or other keepsake with their favorite memories. Here are some ideas for questions to ask your kids about their summer:

  • What was the coolest thing you did this summer?
  • What is your favorite summer treat?
  • Did you learn anything new this summer?
  • Did you make any new friends?
  • Pool, lake, or ocean?

Collecting the summer's memories could be a great tradition to end the summer each year. Does your family have any end of summer/back to school traditions?
