Posted on Aug 31, 2016

It’s that time of year for Loudoun County: Back to school time! As a parent, it’s your responsibility to help your kids succeed in school, but with so many things to juggle, that's easier said than done. If you need a little motivation, check out these ideas to help your kids start the year strong.

kids school tips

Get them back on schedule

Summer is a magical time with few rules and a lot of fun to be had. As kids transition back into the school year, one of the biggest shockers can be getting back on a schedule. Don’t throw them into the deep end with no practice. Instead, gradually ease them back into a schedule a little bit at a time in the days leading up to the first day of school.

Get them excited about school and give them a great place to study

Your kids may be dreading school or they may be looking forward to it. Either way, talk to them about how exciting the upcoming year is going to be. Take a look at the classes they’ll be taking or the teacher that will be working with them. Share tidbits you learned and express your own excitement.

Giving them a clean, tidy, brightly lit place to study can help increase the chances that they do their homework and take their school work seriously. Let them pick out any elements you need to add and they’ll be even more excited.

Don’t forget the exercise!

Regular exercise can actually help kids learn but you don’t have to take the kids to the gym to get them active. Instead, stop by Monkey Joe’s Dulles to let them get active on our incredible indoor playground. It’s a great way to get your kids moving, and they'll be having so much fun they won't even realize how much exercise they're getting!
