5 Tips to Keep Kids Healthy

Keep That Color in Their Cheeks

There’s more to worry about this winter than just boredom. When kids spend so much time indoors, it’s easier to snack on unhealthy foods, skip regular physical activity, and avoid germs. Monkey Joe’s Camp Hill shares our best tips for promoting kids health this winter.

5 Kids Health Tips for Winter

  1. Start the day with a healthy breakfast. It will give kids an energy boost, which will give them the energy to stay active throughout the day. Balance breakfast treats with healthy options like protein, whole grains, and fresh, colorful fruit.
  2. Wash up. Germs are everywhere during the wintertime. Your kids are breathing recycled air, interacting with sick kids at school, and touching germ-ridden surfaces wherever they go. One of the best ways for kids to avoid winter illness is to wash their hands regularly, especially before eating.
  3. Stay hydrated. Hydration helps the body thrive, but most kids forget to drink up in the winter, when they’re not as thirsty. Make sure your kids drink 5-7 glasses of water a day (depending on their age). Do your kids scrunch up their nose at water? Make it taste sweeter by adding fresh, frozen fruit instead of ice!
  4. Engage in active play. Plan a winter playdate at Monkey Joe’s or dance around the living room after dinner. Who says exercise is boring? Family time is fun time!
  5. Practice what you preach. Kids look to their parents for behavioral cues. Make sure to model healthy behavior by washing up before dinner, layering up when you go outside, and bringing the kids to Monkey Joe’s Camp Hill for healthy playtime.
