Tips For Beating The Heat This Summer!

Posted on Jun 23, 2016

Boy is it getting warm up here in Wisconsin! Backyard BBQ's, pool days and vacation time are a few perks of summer, but the heat sure isn't! Especially when it comes to your kids, the heat is something to be super cautious of. We never want crazy sunburns, dehydration or overheating to happen! So we're here to tell you about a few tips we have for beating and heat and keeping cool this summer!

  • Stay hydrated. Drink as much water as you can stand and then some! Children under the age of 8 should have at least 5 cups of water per day. We know it's sometimes difficult to get the kids to drink water, especially when they have soda or juice options! To make hydration a little more fun, purchase a cool water bottle, add flavored / colored ice cubes or consider adding fresh frozen fruit.
  • Avoid the afternoon. The hottest (and most dangerous) rays are in the middle of the day between 10 am - 3 pm. Take the kids outside in the early morning or later in the evening to avoid some serious heat!
  • Wear breathable clothing. Dress the kids in lightweight clothing with bright colors, and avoid darker colors like black or brown. And don't forget to include sunglasses, sunscreen and a sun hat to keep the face cool!
  • Buy a spray bottle. If you're planning on being in the heat for a bit, consider having a spray bottle or two on hand. The mist is an instant, easy cool off!
  • Stock the fridge! We know the kids won't argue with you on this one. Keep cool treats in the fridge like popsicles, watermelon, ice cream and more for a nice refresher. Here are some of our favorite kid friendly summer snacks!

And our last tip of all is bring the kids to Monkey Joe's of Appleton! Our facility is fully air conditioned, so no sunburns or overheating here! We're also open rain or shine, so in case your outdoor plans fail, you'll always have a back up plan! For a discounted rate, bring in your friends and get a cheaper group rate!
