Nothing is cooler than science. But the best thing about science is that you can enjoy it right from the comfort of your home with even the littlest of scientists! Try out a few of these Monkey Joe approved, cool science experiments with your littlest ones.
Rainbow Rubber Eggs
What you need:
-
6 jars
-
Food coloring in your favorite colors
-
Vinegar
How to conduct the experiment:
-
Pour vinegar into each of the jars (about ¾ of the way full)
-
Place 8 drops of food coloring into each jar
-
Put 1 egg in each jar
-
Wait 48-78 hours
-
Take the eggs out and viola! You have a “rubber” egg.
Why it works:
-
Egg shells are made up of a membrane that is located between the egg shell and the egg white. The vinegar breaks down the membrane and makes it rubbery and bouncey.
Making Rain

What you need:
-
A jar
-
Blue food coloring
-
Shaving cream
How to conduct the experiment:
-
Fill the cup with water (this represents air)
-
Add a thin layers of shaving cream (your clouds)
-
Place a few drops of blue food coloring on top of the shaving cream (water droplets)
-
Wait for it to rain!
Why it works:
-
The food coloring is more dense than the shaving cream, making it drop through the cream (clouds) into the water (air).
Lava Lamps
What you need:
-
A clear drinking glass
-
Vegetable Oil
-
Salt
-
Water
-
Food Coloring
How to conduct the experiment:
-
Fill your glass with water, about ¾ of the way full
-
Add 5 drops of food coloring
-
Slowly pour ¼ cup of vegetable oil into the glass
-
Sprinkle 1 teaspoon of salt on top of the oil
-
Watch the blobs of “lava” move up and down in the glass!/
Why it works:
-
Oil is lighter than the water, and makes it float to the top. Because the salt is heavier than the ol, it will then sink down and take some oil with it. When the salt dissolves, the oil then floats back to the top!
