Is your child getting enough exercise? According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, kids and adolescents need 60 minutes or more of physical activity each day. Getting enough exercise has many benefits for kids and adults alike, from muscular fitness to heart health, but it can also benefit kids in other ways, like developing stronger bones and boosting brain growth.
There are 3 main types of exercise that kids need:
- Aerobic activity- Also known as cardio, aerobic activity is good for the heart and lungs, and should make up the majority of your child's 60 minutes of exercise each day. Examples include walking, running, swimming, dancing, riding a bike, or even jumping at Monkey Joe's!
- Bone strengthening- High impact activities, like running or jumping rope, are important for bone development.
- Muscle strengthening- Muscle strengthening activities should be incorporated into your child's daily exercise at least 3 times per week. Gymnastics, rowing, rock climbing, monkey bars, even climbing trees--they can all help kids build strong muscles.
At Monkey Joe's, we're proud to provide families with a fun, safe, place where kids can play hard for hours at a time.
