Summertime, and the living is easy... At least if you're a kid on summer break! Kids are out of school for the summer and enjoying their freedom from alarm clocks and homework assignments. Unfortunately with all of that fun and freedom comes a downside: the summertime slump.

With TV, video games, smart phones, tablets, and other gadgets vying for their attention (not to mention the cool allure of air conditioning), kids can easily slip into couch potato mode, spending more time sitting around and less time being physically active. Many kids are already getting less than an hour of exercise per day, so they certainly don't need a summer slowdown. On average, kids gain weight at triple the rate during the summer that they do during the school year, a concerning statistic considering the fact that one-third of American kids between 2 and 19 are overweight or obese

A structured schedule, limited screen time, and plenty of physical activity are the keys to a healthier summer for your kids. Remember that exercise doesn't have to be structured or tedious--the goal is just to get kids moving, whether they're playing chase in the backyard, riding bikes, swimming at the neighborhood pool, or jumping at Monkey Joe's! Our indoor inflatable playground is a great option for summertime jumping, giving kids a safe, climate-controlled place to run wild and burn off some energy without having to worry about the sun, bugs, and rain showers.
