How to Connect with Other Homeschooling Families

If your family homeschools, you probably know the importance of connecting with other families who are familiar with the experience. Homeschool groups and events not only provide kids with the outside socialization they need and liven up the usual routine, but also give parents an opportunity to compare notes, share ideas, and discuss the challenges and benefits of educating your kids outside of the traditional school environment.

Since May is Homeschool Awareness Month, we're sharing some tips to help you meet other homeschoolers in your community! Below are 3 ways you can expand your homeschool social circle with events at your local Monkey Joe's indoor playground

Physical Education Playdates

Academics are important, but they're not the only part of a well-rounded education. Physical education is also a must, especially with today's more sedentary lifestyle, which puts kids at increased risk for childhood obesity. Why not set up a standing playdate as part of your children's physical education curriculum? Invite other homeschool families you know to a weekly or monthly playdate at Monkey Joe's, where kids can bounce and play hard for hours on end, all in a safe environment. A standing date (for instance, every other Friday, or the first Tuesday of every month) makes it easy for people to drop in as their schedules permit, without you needing to put much effort into the arrangements.

Homeschool Meetups and Mixers

Want to expand your network of homeschool friends and contacts? Step up to the plate and plan a meetup for homeschool families in your area. If you plan it, they will come! Of course, you will have to do a little legwork to get the word out.

Post about the event in any online homeschooling groups you may be part of; hang flyers on the bulletin boards at your local library, YMCA, coffee house, etc; or submit your event to the community calendar of your local paper. The kids will have a ball getting to make new friends and explore our bouncy playground together, while the adults can enjoy chatting and mingling with other teacher parents.

Special Events

Sometimes a celebration is in order, whether it's acknowledging your kids' accomplishments in their schoolwork, or observing a special occasion. Monkey Joe's is the perfect place to plan a good grades party or holiday party for your homeschool co-op! We offer private party rooms, dedicated Party Pros to keep our events running smoothly, and even private events to accommodate large groups. Find your local Monkey Joe's and contact them to learn more about group events.
