Halloween is almost here, and that means it's time for a refresher on Halloween safety! If you're planning to take your kids trick-or-treating for the spookiest celebration of the year, check out these tips for a safe and fun Halloween.

Halloween safety tips for kids and parents

  • Be visible- Part of the fun of trick-or-treating is running around after dark, but that also makes it extra important to be visible to motorists. If you or your kids are wearing dark colors, be sure to include reflective/high visibility items, lights, or glowsticks so that you're easy to see.
  • Stick together- If you let your kids go trick-or-treating without you, it's important to establish the rules ahead of time. Take your child's maturity and decision-making skills into account when deciding whether to let them go out without you (for instance, can you trust them to look both ways before crossing the street, every time?), and make sure they stay with a group of friends. Know your child's route and check in with them occasionally to ensure you know where they are and what they're up to.
  • Dress for safety- In addition to making costumes visible, it's also important to prevent injuries from costume hazards like masks, which can obscure vision, and ill-fitting costumes, which can cause kids to trip and fall.
  • Choose family-friendly events- Another great option for celebrating Halloween with your kids is to attend a family-friendly event like Monkey Joe's Halloween Party! Find your local Monkey Joe's to learn more about your local event, and plan to come in costume for prizes, games, candy, specials, and more!
